GPS tracking is a great tool for any fleet, but how exactly does GPS tracking work? GPS tracking works by using a combination of government satellites, cellular towers, and of course, the internet. First, the GPS tracking device locks onto a triangulated signal from the 24 government satellites in the sky. These satellites can determine the GPS units latitude and longitude. That data is stored in the device and then pushed to the cellular towers within the network. Once it communicates with the cell network, the data is pushed to the internet and Smart Fleet’s cloud based software. This entire process takes only a few seconds, translating data at high speeds to get you the GPS tracking data as fast as possible.
